Friday, June 20, 2008 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM (PT)
This year’s “Their Spirit Inspires” dinner will be held Friday, June 20, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Sacramento. The evening is sure to be memorable as we honor men and women recently injured in Iraq, by highlighting the role sports rehabilitation plays in their recovery and adjustment to their disabilities.
The soldiers will take part in a three-day adaptive sports camp; teaching them how to water ski, play golf, white water raft, handcycle and play wheelchair baseball. The event will culminate with an inspirational dinner at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento the evening of June 20th.
Disabled Sports has been providing sports rehabilitation since 1967. The agency was created when soldiers from World War II began visiting the Naval and Army Hospitals during the Vietnam War and reaching out to those injured soldiers. They taught me to ski on one leg and the experience changed my life. It was a powerful example of “can-do” spirit. Disabled Sports offers a year-round program of affordable, inclusive therapeutic recreation for disabled members and their families. Those programs are: adaptive snowsports, water skiing, cycling, white water rafting, golf, 4wd adventures and campouts. Disabled Sports has provided services to over 20,000 individuals with disabilities ages 4 to 85.The proceeds from this event will enable Disabled Sports to continue to provide sports rehabilitation and therapeutic recreation programs to anyone with any disability.
